Favorite bloopers
The movie Krakatoa, East of Java is decent but the title has a blooper. It's actually west of Java, not east.

A googolplex
Mathematically speaking, a googolplex is a 1 with a googol zeroes after it. Is it just me or does it also sound like the newest streaming platform?

Any good free mmorpgs out there?
Does anyone know of any good free to play mmorpgs that don't require a monthly sub? I play Villagers and Heroes from time to time but I'd like to add some more games. I know some games don't require a sub but they limit what you can do without one, like The Elder Scrolls Online or World of Warcraft....

Two students may have proved the pythagorean theorum
Two high school students appear to have proved the pythagorean theorum using trigonometry. Some (many?) mathematicians didn't think that was possible. Serious question: will they have to rename it if that proof is valid? If so, what will they call it?

Famous firsts
I'm sure most of us are familiar with Captain Kangaroo, played by Bob Keeshan. Did you know that he was also the original Clarabell the Clown on The Howdy Doody Show? Willard Scott made a name for himself as the weatherman on the NBC news show Today. He was also the original Ronald McDonald. What ot...

Best programming advice you've ever been given
What is the one piece of programming advice you were given that has really made an impact on you? The one you will never forget. Mine came from my dad. This was back in the days before Visual Languages (e.g. Visual Basic). You had to code your interface and your program code then. But the sentiment ...

Welcome to Nerds Geeks & Dweebs
Hi and welcome to the site and especially the forums. The About Us page on the main site gives a good description of what this site is all about. But I'll summarize it here anyway. This site is all about discussing things intellectual like math, history, computers, and science. But this is also the ...

Hi from the admin/webmaster
Hi all. I'm Mike and I'm the forum admin and the webmaster for the site. I'm into all sorts of things both intellectual and not. I'm equally at home discussing quantum physics and my favorite songs. I have a few websites including one with my website templates for webmasters, I'm an armchair Medieva...

Movies you couldn't remake today
On one facebook group I'm in the subject comes up from time to time about movies that couldn't be remade today. I can think of two. Can you think of any others? Home Alone Kevin and his mother would have talked while she was on the plane. He would have known right away what had happened. She would a...

They're not the Dark Ages anymore
The Dark Ages was the name given to that period of history from the fall of Rome (ca. 476 AD) to 900 AD. Just like with the Middle Ages, they've discovered (as a number of us knew) that there were more misconceptions than truth about that period. It wasn't nearly as dark as many people were taught. ...
